So, I had an interesting debate with my Advanced-Level English teacher the other day. Mr. Hamill. Who’s better when it comes to the ability to communicate, animals or humans? He argued that humans are at a higher rate of development when it comes to communication. He backed this up by saying that humans have the written mode, and animals do not. Fair enough, a good argument. I however, do not agree that humans have the advantage when it comes to the ability to communicate. I believe the power of the body language and the paralinguistic features of animals is extraordinary. The was a bee moved around in circular motions meaning that a predator is near, or when it moves in a different way to say that the honey is ready. It’s amazing. I believe the potential power of their body language and possibly their spoken language overrides our ability to communicate by a huge margin. Thoughts?
